Pontes Aqueduct and Cross

The Pontes aqueduct imposes itself on the landscape. Built in the fourth decade of the twentieth century by the inhabitants of the Pontes Inverneira and made entirely of granite, this aqueduct was the result of a huge effort. It is an irrigation aqueduct in the form of an open channel, about 60 meters long, with masonry apparatus supported on pillars of granite slabs, which form 23 linear spans. Currently the aqueduct is not in use.

The aqueduct crosses an important path connecting the brandas and Inverneiras, having therefore been sanctified by the placing of a cross and some shrines. The Cross is of simple granite construction facing east and consisting of a quadrangular pedestal on which are placed some shrines. On these stands a Latin cross of square section, carved out of a single block.

On the north side of the aqueduct and the east side of the track are some roughly fashioned shrines, facing west and on a rectangular base fashioned only on the front. A small niche is topped by a high relief Latin cross.
