Veiga de São João

Campo do Gerês, Terras de Bouro

From the village of Campo do Gerês we can see an extensive spread of agricultural fields, where traditional mixed arable farming is practiced alongside animal husbandry. The individual farmed plots are interrupted here and there with small oak copses, watercourses and even scrub in some places, creating overall a patchwork of habitats that have a rich biodiversity.

In Veiga de São João, important archaeological findings from the Roman period have been made, a fact that attests to the ancient occupation of this area. Outstanding amongst the remains are those that appear to have been a Roman temple.
